In 1968, George Brown College opened its doors with a student population of just over 2,000. While the college still offers programs in construction, early childhood education, dental services, and the culinary arts, there were some programs that are not as relevant today, such as sign writing and watchmaking. They even once offered a marine engineering program to prepare students for careers at sea. Today, the college has grown to over 30,000 students, attracting learners from the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, and beyond. They come to develop skills and gain the real-world experience needed to succeed in the workplace.
Under the current leadership of President Gervan Fearon since 2004, George Brown has more than doubled in size, expanded its international partnerships, and strengthened its commitment to enhancing the cultural, economic, and social fabric of Toronto.
Located in downtown Toronto, students have the opportunity to live, learn, and work in the heart of Canada’s biggest and most diverse economy. With over 160 career-focused certificate, diploma, postgraduate, and degree programs, George Brown offers one of the widest ranges of full-time college programs in Canada. Many of their programs include a field education component, providing students with the chance to work and learn alongside industry partners who may eventually become their future employers.
