Study gap accepted in UK
Having gap years were considered to be a roadblock to students wanting to study in UK. Many thought that having a gap between their studies could end their chances of getting accepted into a university and getting a UK student visa. But such problems are a thing of the past as now UK has one of the most flexible education system.
The duration of gap acceptable depends on each university. Recent pass outs would have a slight advantage but if you have a valid reason for such gap, the university will consider the same. Some examples of justifiable reasons are as follows:
- Gaining work experience: Gap years provide an opportunity to build your experience. If during such period you were professionally employed or engaged in any projects like community service, volunteer work for the development and enhancement of society, mention such accomplishments as it will add value to your application to universities. Many universities find such candidates to be more desirable as it shows productivity and motivation of the students.
- Preparing for an entrance exam or taking a short term course: Applications can also show any academic achievements during the gap period such as learning a new language, taking a computer certificate course or engaging in any skill development course. College admissions board always see students who have the ability to balance commitments and take up initiatives in a positive light.
- An unavoidable family crisis: Mention the same in your application and be as honest as possible.
- Serious health issues: Legitimate health concerns can always be explained and will be taken into consideration by universities.
Apart from the above, any other reason should be clearly and honestly mentioned in the application. If you are worried that your reasons may not be valid or your gap too long to study in UK, connect with a study abroad expert.

For undergraduate and diploma students, the study gap of up to 2 years is allowed and for postgraduate candidates, the study gap up to 5 years is permitted. There is an 8-year study gap available in various institutions and universities.
