In Canada, international graduates of a pharmacy program must meet certain requirements to become licensed and practice as a pharmacist. Completing a PharmD program in India may not automatically qualify an individual to practice as a pharmacist in Canada.

To become licensed as a pharmacist in Canada, international graduates must typically complete a Canadian Pharmacy Examining Board (PEBC) evaluation process, which involves the following steps:

Document evaluation: The first step involves submitting academic and professional documents to PEBC for evaluation. This includes transcripts, proof of registration/licensure, and other relevant documents.

Evaluating Exam: The second step is to take the Evaluating Exam, which is a multiple-choice exam that tests knowledge and competency in pharmaceutical sciences.

Qualifying Exam: The third step is to take the Qualifying Exam, which is a series of exams that assess knowledge and competency in pharmacy practice.

Language proficiency: International graduates must also demonstrate proficiency in English or French, depending on the province in which they wish to practice.

Once an international graduate has completed the PEBC evaluation process and met other licensing requirements, they may apply for a pharmacy license in the province in which they wish to practice.

It’s worth noting that residency programs are not mandatory for pharmacy licensure in Canada, although some provinces may offer residency programs as an optional form of advanced training. These programs can be highly competitive and may have specific eligibility requirements, so interested individuals should research program options carefully.

In summary, while there are no residency programs in Canada specifically for international graduates of a PharmD program in India, completing the PEBC evaluation process is an important step towards becoming licensed to practice as a pharmacist in Canada.
